In 2010, Hecla opened an o ce in Wallace, Idaho, in order to provide community residents with information about Hecla, the Lucky Friday mine, and ongoing environmental activities in the Silver Valley.  e o ce also serves as an education resource for both the community and tourists regarding the role that responsible mining plays in our economy and society. Farther south at Grouse Creek, employees volunteer as coaches for various high school sports and academic teams, and volunteer to teach hunter safety classes for local youth and adults.
Hecla and its North Idaho employees contributed $22,105 to the United Way Campaign in 2010, making Hecla one of United Way’s top 12 contributors in Kootenai County, Idaho.
THE HECLA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION Established in 2007, the Hecla Charitable Foundation provides grants and disburses funds for educational and charitable purposes to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations. Its mission is to enhance the quality of life and to promote the social, environmental, and economic sustainability and development in the communities where Hecla operates.  e Foundation focuses its e orts in four areas: education, community programs, youth activities, and health services.
In its  rst two years of operation, the Foundation has awarded approximately $360,000 in grants. In 2009, the Foundation contributed $193,700 to a total of 41 recipient organizations; in 2010, $166,070 went to 61 recipients.
