“There were days that Kristi’s shop became a safe and empowering place
for me to go during a particularly dif cult period in my life,” says Holly.
At one point in the process – while Holly was looking through art books for
inspiration and constantly changing her mind – her tattooist asked why she would
settle for what almost makes her happy. “I know he was just talking about tattoos,” she says, “but the question was relevant to
so much more.”
