Spokane Falls Community College graphic design student Isabel Heisler has been selected as the first recipient of the annual Helveticahaus design scholarship, winning $1,000 toward tuition for the 2016-17 school year. According to a spokesman from the selection committee, all of the applicants were thoughtful, talented, and smart. But Isabel’s commitment to furthering her education stood out, making it “easy to invest in someone like her.” After some time studying journalism back home in Londrina, Brazil, Heisler Googled “communications schools,” which sent her to Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, then to the Spokane campus of MBI. That’s where she learned that she had a knack for design, which naturally led her to SFCC – alma mater of Helveticahaus founders CK and Linda Anderson. Heisler is the director of marketing for the SFCC Associated Student Government, vice president of the Graphic Design Club, winner of the Signal Box Design Competition, and a 4.0 honors student.
