Five years ago, Spokane’s Bouten Construction Company began incorporating Lean tools and techniques – practices borrowed from the manufacturing industry – into its construction methods. The result? Lower costs, higher productivity, and increased quality. It’s a story that’s almost too good to be true, so Bouten came to helveticka to help tell it. Borrowing from Lean principles itself, helveticka developed a simple yet straightforward approach: a single-fold brochure that explains the “major paradigm shift in American construction,” then makes the economic case for re-thinking the entire project delivery process. Like Bouten’s promise to “increase value by eliminating waste,” the new brochure took advantage of digital printing’s built-in efficiencies, which enable a shorter print run at a much lower cost. Together with a re-designed pocket folder, the new Lean brochure presents a clear and compelling – yet concise – argument for choosing Bouten Construction.
