Prior to deploying Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI, or smart meters) as part of an ongoing grid modernization effort across its Washington service territory, Avista knew that a major component of the project would be customer communication – not just what was about to happen, but also why. Working with Avista’s marketing communications team, helveticka developed a number of customer touch points explaining the benefits of smart meters and how they fit into the company’s larger vision – from print (as many as 13,000 personalized mailings a week for a total of more than 970,000 individual pieces) to informational videos to 3D display elements for community events. Key to the success of the campaign was timing. With helveticka helping to ensure that the right message was delivered to the right people at the right time, Avista could focus entirely on the implementation of the largest capital project in the company’s history – with the support of its customers and the communities it serves.
