For the third time in five years – and the second year in a row – three students have claimed the Helveticahaus design scholarship. Jason Thomas was awarded $1,000, while Ksenia “Susha” Akimova and Madison Allen each took home $500. All three are part of the graphic design program at Spokane Falls Community College. Both Thomas and Akimova hope to one day open their own companies – Thomas in content creation, Akimova focusing on the needs of small businesses – while Allen would like to work for an agency that specializes in corporate branding and marketing. The annual scholarship, which is funded by proceeds from the sales of Helvetica-themed and -inspired products at Helveticahaus, was first awarded in 2016 – just one year after CK and Linda Anderson founded the nonprofit for the purpose of giving back to the local design community. Criteria for the scholarship include financial need, work ethic, and design excellence.
